Eurocare announces the upcoming webinar on the Commercial Determinants of Health (CDoH), which will take place on Thursday, 16 May, with the occasion of the European Public Health Week (13-17 May 2024) held by the European Public Health Association under the umbrella topic "Health is a political choice". We invite you to save the date and join Eurocare and EuroHealthNet on 16 May to collectively explore effective actions to counter the CDoH!

During this webinar we aim to expose the corporate sectors' tactics to block, amend and delay regulation of health-harming products such as alcohol, tobacco and unhealthy food and drinks, and engage in a debate on what we, the public health community, can do about it.

You will be guided in your discussions by Florence Berteletti, Secretary General at the European Alcohol Policy Alliance (Eurocare) and Samuele Tonello, Research Coordinator at EuroHealthNet. They will set the scene by vividly illustrating the CDoH in action with compelling examples from their work.

When: Thursday, 16 May, 13:00 - 14:30 CEST
Where: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83919300746?pwd=6WTczabAOzvDyDwy8Vd330EJSvfwPD.1

2-6 December 2024

In Europe, every minute, policy makers have an opportunity to save lives by addressing the high levels of alcohol consumption that uniquely affect our region. Millions of people suffer from health issues, violence, injuries, job losses, and various other harms.

The European Awareness Week on Alcohol Related Harm 2024 (AWARH24) is set to capture the attention of policy makers, bringing to light the critical issue of alcohol-related harm in Europe. This year, the campaign will feature an interactive exhibition stand at the heart of EU decision-making, in the European Parliament main building.

This year’s campaign aims to raise awareness among Members of the European Parliament, policymakers, and other stakeholders about alcohol labelling and the right of citizens to know what is in their alcoholic drink, recognising their right to make informed health choices. Currently, alcoholic beverages remain the only product of consumption in the European Union exempt from mandatory ingredient and nutrition labelling.

This campaign is run by Eurocare, European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), United European Gastroenterology (UEG), IOGT-NTO, EuroHealthNet and Green Crescent, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe, and with support from our members and partners.
