How we do it

Policy and Advocacy

The Eurocare team brings decades of insight into the inner workings of the EU with its Europe-wide network’s expertise in alcohol harm to the EU policy making process. Being based in the heart of Brussels put it at the centre of the world’s biggest policy advocacy hub alongside Washington DC.

Secretariat of the MEP Interest Group Health Inequalities, Prevention and Risk Factors

This interest group is determined to act in a clear and decisive way, influencing different policies that affect health, particularly by addressing the main NCDs risk factors. The draft declaration calls for the following:

  • Continued funding for health and especially for prevention and risk factors, including in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), as well as  ongoing funding for NGOs working on public health issues.
  • Stronger legislative commitments to include health in all policy areas, such as agriculture and food policy, education, workforce resilience, and security.
  • Better conflict-of-interest monitoring to stop the undue influence on health policies.

The secretariat of this interest group is hosted by Eurocare, EUPHA and EuroHealthNet.

Policy Briefs and Position Papers

Policymakers, journalists and other non-specialist engaged in the policy making process need to have arguments and ideas outlined clearly and succinctly. Eurocare’s policy briefs and position papers to do this, summarising the issues and the position of the alcohol harm community.

Alcohol Policy Coordination Meetings

Eurocare enables members combine forces with their peers elsewhere in Europe and beyond. We do so using multiple channels, in-person and remote. The engine room of this activity is the monthly Alcohol Policy Coordination meeting, which allows a flow of information, ideas, and resources among alcohol policy professionals.
