Regulation on food information to consumers (labelling). European Parliament

11 November 2008.

The Rapporteur on food labelling, Ms Renate Sommer (EPP–ED, DE) presented, at the 10th edition of the European Meat Forum, the main elements of her report. She declared that she agreed with the commission that the regulation should not cover alcoholic beverages.

Her report that is currently being translated, will be presented in ENVI committee on the 8th December.

Last week the draftswoman of the opinion Committee (the ECON committee) Bernadette Vergnaud (PES, FR) suggested that the time limit that the proposal established for the Commission to submit a report on the labelling of alcoholic drinks should be reduced from five to two years.
