Alcohol labelling, 28 September 2017, European Parliament, Brussels

MEP Jytte Guteland and European Alcohol Policy Alliance (Eurocare) with great pleasure invite you to the lunch event Alcohol labelling on 28th September, held in the European Parliament (Brussels, Room 5G305), at 12:30 – 14:00.

  • What is not on the bottle?

  • Is the alcohol industry capable of effective self-regulation, as suggested by the European Commission’s report?

  • Do consumers want to know what is in their alcoholic drinks?

These and many other questions will be reflected upon during this event.

Consumers have a right to know what products contain. Providing full information about the product enables consumers to make informed choices, and ensures that consumers know what is in the products they are spending their money on. Listing the ingredients contained in a particular beverage alerts the consumer to the presence of any potentially harmful substances. Even more importantly, providing nutritional information such as a beverage’s energy content allows consumers to monitor their diets better, and makes it easier to keep a healthy lifestyle.

However, to date European legislation has failed to allow consumers to make informed choices about the alcoholic products they are purchasing. Alcoholic drinks are exempted from Reg 1169/2011 that obliges nearly all other food and drinks producers to provide ingredients listing and nutritional information.

To register please email: info@eurocare.org by 21st September. Please note that seats are limited. A sandwich lunch will be served.
