Country Implementation

Work plan

ROMTENS Foundation holds the leadership of the WP3 Evaluation. To this end, it continuously gathers data related to monitoring and other evaluation tasks, as stated in the EWA Evaluation Plan (D10).

ROMTENS is also actively participating in WP4 and WP6.

In regards to WP4, ROMTENS prepared two best practices case studies and WP6 is currently under development, although the participating companies have already been pre-selected.

Cases studies

Case I

The organization is the regional operating company of the public water and waste water services throughout a Romanian County, with a total of 911 employees.

The case study focused on SC Aquatim SA, a water and waste water public operator with 911 employees, of which 32% women. The age average of the employees is at 42 years old. At company level, there were various activities implemented that tackled the health of the employees, such as general WHP awareness raising campaigns, developing of a company gazette on WHP, or a first help training. In regards to alcohol, the best practice exemplified their awareness raising campaign, which targeted around 900 employees. Each health related initiative is very important to the company, as it also has employees working under special conditions (in terms of health hazards) and also due to its continuous and fast service coverage development.

The case study describes the implementation of an awareness raising and information campaign on the harmful effects of alcohol in the workplace but also in social life program. The programme aimed to change the beliefs and attitudes, to provide new information and encourage adoption of new practices or lifestyle changes, all related to alcohol consumption. Information sessions were organised providing general information about alcohol, alcohol at the workplace safety issues and an overview of the legislative rules on alcohol.

Case 2.

Our 2nd case study presented SC Valeo SRL, a private manufacturer of products for the automotive industry, with 250 employees, an equal men/ women distribution and an age average of under 35 years old. The company identified smoking and alcohol as being the main work-related factors but it has also implemented campaigns on general WHP issues. Valeo implemented an awareness and education campaign on alcohol, targeted at all the employees of the company for a period of 15 days.

The case study describes the implementation of an information and awareness raising campaign for the employees on the effects of alcohol consumption. The target group were the 260 employees of the plant. The objective was the reduction of the employees’ health problems and subsequently decreased employee absenteeism generated by medical causes among workers.

Pilot studies

ROMTENS is currently preparing the pilot interventions, having pre-selected the participating companies. In performing this task, we will draw on previous expertise in the field of healthy workplaces promotion, and specifically on similar activities.

We have used various criteria in selecting the participating companies, such as size of the company, location, women/ men ratio among employees and so on. An initial appraisal of previous activities on WHP (and alcohol focused activities) already performed within the companies has been made.
