The Danish Cancer Society

The Danish Cancer Society was founded in 1928 and is a democratic organization with more than 425.000 members. More than 660 people are employed by the Danish Cancer Society and the number of volunteers are app. 45.000 including participants in the annual door knocking campaign.

Vision and aims

The Danish Cancer Society´s vision is a life without cancer.

Our aims are:

  • to prevent the development of cancer
  • to improve patients chances of successful recovery
  • to limit the physical, psychological and social side-effects of cancer

Main activities

The main activities are within:

  • Research
  • Patient support
  • Prevention

Prevention of alcohol-related cancer

In 2014, the Danish Cancer Society launched the campaign ‘Fuld af liv’ (in Danish) in collaboration with the Danish foundation TrygFonden. The purpose of the campaign is to reduce the alcohol consumption among younger Danish people and to postpone the alcohol debut age in Denmark in order to prevent alcohol-related cancer in the long term.

The campaign has tree areas of activities:

  • Information and education
  • Analyses and evaluation
  • Working for national alcohol policies
