Institute of Alcohol Studies
The Institute of Alcohol Studies is an independent organisation and a registered charity.
Objectives and aims: to serve the public interest by advocating for the use of scientific evidence in policy making to reduce alcohol-related harm.
Structure: Director, Research staff and support staff.
Main activities: Our main work is based around helping to bridge the gap between the scientific evidence on alcohol and the wider public. We want to make all of this evidence accessible to anyone with an interest in alcohol – politicians, reporters, health professionals, students, youth workers and others – and to advocate for effective responses that will reduce the toll of alcohol in society.
Articles or publications: Alcohol in Europe Report for European Commission, Alcohol Alert magazine, factsheets, occasional papers.
Events we organise: Meetings of Open All Hours? Group in response to the Licensing Act 2003.
